I am somewhat stunned, as this is incredibly pertinent and reflective of the thoughts I have had but I am in no way claiming are unique to me, but that I have been tussling with over the last year as a solution that I felt I had tapped into for the water crisis here in the south of Europe.… It was out of sheer desperation for an end to the concreted conveniences that our roads are for motorised combustion vehicles that are not making dehydration, water scarcity and precipitation shortage any better… The other correlation I understood was with bacteria and how we need to develop a closer relationship to them in terms of how they form our clouds, by not creating imbalances in our oceans with our poor water management systems and sewage systems that poison waterways… There needs to be more on site home-based or municipal water management systematics that incentivise citizens to process their own water as well as collect, regenerate and purify domestic water supply from home to home. You’re the kind of human being that I would deeply appreciate to connect with on a personal level as thought creation and solution finding would probably be as fluid as the issue at hand.😊 We need to transform our cultures to think more seriously about water and how we can make an even fashionable to have ponds and water collection systems and means of water purification and regeneration within our individual domestic settings. Would you like to engage with me?… I surely hope that you do not just see this as another RUclips comment and rather as an opportunity to consider what changes could be brought into action through grassroots/citizen scientific action. All over my local area I am seeing posters that state quotation mark water is life quotation mark and how little do I see the practice of this idea in recognising the seriousness of freshwater depletion in our natural environments because of the unnatural ructions? We persist in perpetuating as part of human civilisation.

I live in the countryside. When I don't mow for several months, ticks multiply rapidly in the tall grass and become a serious problem, not only for people but also for cats and dogs. I'm surprised that no-mow advocates generally fail to mention the ticks. Also, the weeds grow so tall and woody that it becomes virtually impossible to remove them with a lawn mower or even a weed whacker. For example, black locust shrubs shoot underground runners and soon there are hundreds of new thorny bushes that get over 2 meters tall and at least as wide in a single season; after 2 seasons, you have to use the chainsaw. In autumn, many of the weeds will die and just stay there on the ground over winter; come spring, new weeds will grow through them, creating a tangled mess that is extremely difficult to remove. I'm curious to know how you all solve these problems.

At the 2:10 mark, you nailed the main issue, but then skipped on to talk about how to adapt to the symptom. Wetland loss due to the need for cropland could be understandable. However, there's a real problem when you're importing people at wholly unsustainable rates. While I'm 100% in favor of repairing the ecological damage, we have to be honest with ourselves. If you're building 200,000 houses every year and each house takes up just a 1/4-acre, how many years could you possibly do that before an entire ecosystem is paved over? What are the 2nd Order Effects of that? Why don't the indigenous people of Britain have a right to their own tribal lands? It might sound "mean", but we're talking about a very small island in the North Atlantic. There's only so much room, and so many resources. Every house built also requires tons of other hardscape - like roads and driveways - and also causes rainfall to simply sheet off, which means more flooding or overworked drains. It goes way beyond the simple idea of just a loss of wetland habitat, and while adding buckets in the yards will certainly offset a fraction of the damage, it's a very very small fraction. If we don't address the root cause, the problem only gets worse.

A little note for hope: almost the entire northern side of a large hill where I'm from has just been planted with native species which will grow into a deciduous forest over the next couple of centuries, which has also been designed to be able to walk through, keeping humans part of the story, not just separating them.

Honestly I and my inner child LOVE this idea, but my current me also dislikes it a lot because it is standing water, making it PERFECT breeding grounds for Mosquitos and Gnats. And that sucks when it is where you're most likely to frequent day to day, you know? And clearly Craneflies (Mosquito Catchers) are not efficient at all nor anywhere close to reliable on keeping their populations down either, while they're also incredible drunk at all times haha. I do not understand why they're so incredibly uncoordinated lol.

Great you tube story. Mow once in August. You can mow in early spring thus mimicking wildflower meadow management. However, the unmown area will take years to develop properly Sooooo. Add some wildflower meadow seeds. The most important is Yellow Rattle. It is a bee favourite and is a fascinating annual plant so you must let it flower and seed. If you do so you will realise why it is called Yellow Rattle. Yellow Rattle also suppresses grass growth as it is parasitic on grasses. This opens up the sward allowing other herbs into the mix. As an American, something that I do think we’ve done relatively well at is our parks systems (our national parks alone cover more land than all of the uk, this doesn’t include state parks and other government owned land). We don’t have the right to roam like in the uk but our parks are so extensive that it’s not really that bad. In my home state of Minnesota, we have what are called the boundary waters with the Boundary waters canoe area (bwca) and voyageurs national park which are a pristine glacial lake habitat. Our lakes are protected by tourism and visitors coming in (this is important bc there are massive mineral reserves and mining could cause enormous destruction and pollution)

The Rewilding of the wolf to the UK, seems to be going well. No reports of attacks on humans or livestock so far, but the wild deer population may be taking abit of a hit in the areas the wolves frequent. The Lynx on the other hand prefers sheep and lambs, and is becoming abit of a nuisance to farmers. Glad they are back though, they belong here, and are an important part of our ecosystem.
